Die Solidarität mit Palästina in das StuPa der FU bringen

Gegen Repression, rassistische Hetze und selektive Menschlichkeit: Solidarität mit Gaza und dem palästinensischen Widerstand!

Das Studierendenparlament möge beschließen und von der Freien Universität Berlin fordern:

• Psychologische Beratung und Unterstützung für jüdische und palästinensische Menschen kostenlos zur Verfügung zu stellen
• Verlängerung der Fristen für Hausarbeiten und Prüfungen für Menschen, die von der aktuellen Situation betroffen sind zu ermöglichen
• Ein weiteres öffentliches Statement zu verfassen, in welchem:
  • Israels Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit und Israels Verstöße gegen das Völkerrechts öffentlich verurteilt werden
    die Verbote palästinasolidarischer Demonstrationen verurteilt werden und sich gegen kommende Demoverbote positioniert wird; in diesem Zuge außerdem die Auflösung der Gedenkkundgebung an Yousef Shaban an der Universität Kassel öffentlich verurteilt wird
  • sich gegen den aktuellen Rechtsruck und die Verschärfung des Asylrechts gestellt wird und sich stattdessen für den Stopp aller Abschiebungen und für ein Bleiberecht für alle einzusetzen
  • für einen Stopp deutscher Waffenexporte an den israelischen Staat eingesetzt wird
  • Israel dazu aufgefordert wird sich vollständig aus Gaza zurückzuziehen und sämtliche Angriffe zu stoppen
  • die völkerrechtswidrige Besatzung in Ost-Jerusalem durch die Hebrew University angeklagt wird

Darüber hinaus fordert das Studierendenparlament vom AStA sich ebenfalls zu den aktuellen Geschehnissen zu positionieren und ein Statement mit den gleichen Inhalten zu verfassen, die auch in der Forderung an die Freie Universität aufgelistet sind. Wir fordern den AStA auf, eine Vollversammlung einzuberufen, um mit allen Studierenden darüber zu diskutieren, wie wir Solidarität mit Palästina an der Uni aufbauen können.

Begründung:

In Gaza, das unter der kolonialen Machtstellung Israels in das größte Freiluftgefängnis der Welt verwandelt wurde, begeht das israelische Militär aktuell einen Genozid an der palästinensischen Bevölkerung. Die Ermordung von Tausenden Palästinenser:innen, davon viele Kinder, ist mit keiner fadenscheinigen Berufung auf „Selbstverteidigung“ zu rechtfertigen. Die Kriegsverbrechen des israelischen Militärs zeigen, dass es um die Auslöschung und Vertreibung der Palästinenser:innen als solche geht. Trotz Recherchen von zahlreichen Menschenrechtsorganisationen, die die Bombardierungen von ziviler und gesundheitlicher Infrastruktur, die völkerrechtswidrige Blockade des Gazastreifens und die Massaker, die sowohl in Gaza als auch in anderen besetzten Regionen geschehen, als Kriegsverbrechen bloßstellen, schweigen Parteien und wichtige Institutionen des Deutschen Staates zum Vorgehen Israels.

Gleichzeitig protestieren weltweit Millionen Menschen verschiedenster Nationalitäten und Glaubensrichtungen gegen den Krieg in Gaza. Während alleine in Berlin am vergangenen Wochenende mindestens 15.000 Menschen auf der Straße waren, protestierten in London mehrere Hunderttausend Menschen in Solidarität mit Palästina. In den USA blockierten hunderte jüdische Aktivist:innen der „Jewish Voice for Peace“ an mehreren Stellen des Landes und blockierten den wichtigsten Bahnhof in New York in der größten Aktion zivilen Ungehorsams seit dem Irak-Krieg. In Belgien weigern sich die Transportgewerkschaften Flugzeuge abzufertigen, die mit Waffenlieferungen nach Israel ausgestattet sind. In Neapel haben Studierende ein Uni-Gebäude besetzt in Solidarität mit Palästina. Sie wollen damit die Diskussion in die Unis tragen und die Uni dazu bringen, den Genozid und die Menschenrechtsverletzungen zu verurteilen. Dies sind nur einige wenige Beispiele der massiven Welle an Solidarität mit Palästina, die wir in den letzten Tagen und Wochen in den imperialistischen Zentren beobachten konnten.

Währenddessen vollzieht sich in Deutschland eine beispiellose rassistische Hetze und Repression, die sich unter dem vorgeschobenen Banner des “importierten Antisemitismus” gegen all jene richtet, die das Vorgehen Israels kritisieren. Die Gleichsetzung von Kritik am israelischen Staat oder an der Ideologie des Zionismus mit Antisemitismus hilft nicht im Kampf gegen Antisemitismus, sondern weicht dessen Definition auf eine Weise auf, die den Kampf gegen wirkliche Antisemit:innen erschwert. Tatsächliche antisemitische Angriffe, die sich momentan im Schatten der Solidaritätsbewegung mit Palästina vollziehen, sind ohne wenn und aber abzulehnen. Wir denken dabei an Angriffe, wie wir sie im versuchten Brandanschlag auf eine jüdische Gemeinde in Berlin oder am jüdischen Teil des Friedhofs in Wien sehen mussten. Diese Taten haben in ihrem Kern nichts mit der aktuellen Lage in Gaza, der Politik der Israelischen Regierung oder der Befreiung der Palästinenser:innen zu tun, sondern Stellen einen Angriff auf jüdisches Leben dar, den wir entschieden ablehnen. Nichtsdestotrotz sehen wir auch, dass palästinensische und Palästina-solidarische Stimmen reihenweise stummgestellt werden und ihre gerechtfertigte Wut, Trauer und Angst als illegitim dargestellt und als antisemitisch gebrandmarkt wird. Das hat ironischerweise nicht nur direkte Unterdrückung von palästinensischen, arabischen und muslimischen Menschen zur Folge, sondern verhindert auch die Bekämpfung der Ursachen des echten Antisemitismus, der sicherlich kein „importiertes“ Phänomen ist.

Die Mär des importierten Antisemitismus ist im Land des Nationalsozialismus ein gefährlicher Vorwand, der vertuscht, wie Antisemitismus in Deutschland zutiefst verwurzelt ist, angefangen mit der fehlenden Aufarbeitung und Verurteilung der NS-Kriegsverbrecher und Kollaborateure im Staat, über die faschistischen Netzwerke in den sogenannten Sicherheitsbehörden bis hin zu rechtsradikalen und neofaschistischen Organisdationen und Parteien. Die Aiwanger-Affäre hat gezeigt, wie Antisemitismus im rechtskonservativen Spektrum relativiert wird, wenn er von Deutschen ausgeht, und im Gegenzug sogar zu steigender Popularität führen kann. Gleichzeitig nimmt die rassistische Hetze eine neue Dimension ein. Migration und Flucht sollen noch tiefer kriminalisiert werden und es wird gar darüber debattiert, ob Migrant:innen nicht ihre doppelte Staatsbürgerschaft entzogen und Familiennachzug für Geflüchtete eingeschränkt werden soll. Palästinenser:innen in Deutschland müssen nicht nur tagtäglich um ihre Angehörigen bangen und trauern, sie dürfen oft ihre Meinung nicht kundtun, wie wir es in Berlin mit den multiplen Demonstrationsverboten gesehen haben. An der Universität Kassel wurde gar eine Gedenkfeier für den von einem Bombenanschlag in Gaza ermordeten palästinensischen Studenten Yousef Shaban von der Rektorin beendet und die Polizei gerufen.

In ihrem Statement vom 09. Oktober solidarisierte sich die Freie Universität mit allen ihren israelischen Koorperationspartnern. Zu diesen gehört die Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Die Universität stand in den vergangenen Jahren immer wieder unter massiver Kritik für die Diskriminierung palästinensischer Studierender, aber auch von jüdischen und internationalen Studierenden, welche öffentlich den israelischen Staat kritisieren. 1968 besetzte die Hebrew University of Jerusalem unrechtmäßig einen beträchtlichen Teil des Geländes, auf dem ihr Mount Scopus Campus und ihre Wohnheime gebaut sind. Dieses Land ist Teil von Ost-Jerusalem, das nach internationalem Recht durch Israel illegal besetzt ist.

Die FU Berlin hat seit Beginn des Kriege versäumt, sich mit den palästinensischen Opfern in Gaza oder mit ihren Angehörigen hier zu solidarisieren. Stattdessen hat sie ihre Integrität als „freie“ wissenschaftliche Institution verraten und sich einseitig auf die Seite der israelischen Opfer gestellt. Stattdessen ist allerdings eine Verurteilung aller zivilen Opfer und eine klare Positionierung in Solidarität mit dem palästinensischen Widerstand nötig, da alles andere die Gewalt der Unterdrücker und der Unterdrückten gleichsetzt. Während auch wir die Massaker der Hamas an der israelischen Zivilbevölkerung verurteilen, stehen dieses Terroraktionen in keinem Verhältnis zum Völkermord, der gerade mit der geballten Staatsmacht Israels und mit Hilfe der westlichen Imperialismen durchgeführt wird. Es ist auch klar: Wer Gräueltaten wie die der Hamas verhindern will, muss sich gegen die israelische Besatzung stellen.

Der AStA hat bisher gar kein Statement zum Genozid in Gaza veröffentlicht. Auf Grundlage der oben geschilderten Lage in den Kriegsgebieten und der genozidalen Politik des israelischen Staates, fordern wir sowohl von dem Präsidium der Freien Universität, als auch vom AStA, dass die Nichtbeachtung bzw. das Schweigen zum Leid der Palästinenser:innen endlich gebrochen wird. Wie geschildert wurde, gibt es eine riesige Bewegung in Solidarität mit den Menschen in Palästina, die weltweit abermillionen Menschen auf die Straße bringen konnte. Es ist Zeit, dass wir auch an unserer Universität die Stimmen gegen Genozid und Besatzung laut werden lassen.

Bringing solidarity with Palestine to the FU StuPa

On Friday, 10.11.2023 at 12 noon ct in room KL 25/134 (Silberlaube) the next session of the student parliament of the FU Berlin will be held. We publish our motion and call on all FU students to critically accompany the parliamentary session.

Against repression,racist agitation and selective humanity: Solidarity with Gaza and the Palestinian resistance!

The student parliament may decide and demand from Freie Universität Berlin:

• To provide psychological counseling and support for Jewish and Palestinian students free of charge
• To extend the deadlines for term papers and exams for people affected by the current situation
• To write another public statement in which the FU:
  • publicly condemns Israel’s crimes against humanity and Israel’s violations of international law, condemns the bans on Palestinian solidarity demonstrations and takes a stand against future bans on demonstrations; in this context, the FU is also asked to publicly condemn the dissolution of the memorial assembly for Yousef Shaban at the University of Kassel
  • opposes the current political shift to the right and the tightening of asylum laws and instead campaigns for an immediate end of all deportations and for the right to remain for everyone
  • advocates for a stop of German arms exports to the state of Israel
  • calls upon the state of Israel to withdraw completely from Gaza and to stop all attacks
  • denounces the occupation of East Jerusalem by the Hebrew University in violation of international law

Furthermore, the student parliament demands that the AStA also take a stance on the current events and write a statement with the same content as listed in the demands to Freie Universität. We call on the AStA to convene a general assembly to discuss with all students how we can build solidarity with Palestine at the university.

Justification:

In Gaza, which has been transformed into the world’s largest open-air prison under Israel’s colonial power, the Israeli military is currently committing genocide against the Palestinian population. The murder of thousands of Palestinians, many of them children, cannot be justified by any flimsy invocation of „self-defense“. The war crimes committed by the Israeli military show that its sole and intentional purpose is the extermination and expulsion of the Palestinians as such. Despite research by numerous human rights organizations that expose the bombing of civilian and health infrastructure, the blockade of the Gaza Strip in violation of international law and the massacres that take place both in Gaza and in other occupied regions as war crimes, political parties and important institutions of the German state remain silent about Israel’s actions.

At the same time, millions of people of different nationalities and faiths around the world are protesting against the war in Gaza. While at least 15,000 people took to the streets in Berlin last weekend alone, several hundred thousand people protested in London in solidarity with Palestine. In the USA, hundreds of Jewish activists from „Jewish Voice for Peace“ blockaded several parts of the country and blocked the main train station in New York in the largest act of civil disobedience since the Iraq war. In Belgium, the transport unions refused to board planes carrying weapons to Israel. In Naples, students have occupied a university building in solidarity with Palestine. They want to bring the discussion into the universities and get the university to condemn the genocide and human rights violations. These are just a few examples of the massive wave of solidarity with Palestine that the imperialist centers have seen in recent days and weeks.

Meanwhile, unprecedented racist incitement and repression is taking place in Germany under the pretense of „imported anti-Semitism“, directed against all those who criticize Israel’s actions. Equating criticism of the Israeli state or the ideology of Zionism with antisemitism does not help in the fight against antisemitism, but softens its definition in a way that makes the fight against real antisemites more difficult. Actual antisemitic attacks, which are currently taking place in the shadow of the solidarity movement with Palestine, must be rejected outright. We are thinking of attacks such as the attempted arson attack on a Jewish community in Berlin or the Jewish section of the cemetery in Vienna. At their core, these acts have nothing to do with the current situation in Gaza, the policies of the Israeli government or the liberation of the Palestinians, but represent an attack on Jewish life, which we firmly reject. Nonetheless, we also see that Palestinian and Palestine-solidarity voices are being silenced by the dozen and their justified anger, grief and fear are being portrayed as illegitimate and branded as antisemitic. Ironically, this not only results in direct oppression of Palestinian, Arab and Muslim people, but also prevents the causes of genuine antisemitism, which is certainly not an „imported“ phenomenon, from being tackled.

In the land of Nazism, the myth of imported antisemitism is a dangerous pretext that covers up how antisemitism is deeply rooted in Germany, starting with the lack of condemnation of Nazi war criminals and collaborators in the state, through the fascist networks in the so-called security authorities to right-wing extremist and neo-fascist organizations and parties. The Aiwanger affair has shown how antisemitism is relativized in the right-wing conservative spectrum when it comes from Germans, and in turn can even lead to increasing popularity. At the same time, racist incitement is taking on a new dimension. Migration and asylum are to be criminalized even further and there is even a debate about whether migrants should be stripped of their dual citizenship and family reunification for refugees should be restricted. Palestinians in Germany not only have to fear and mourn for their relatives on a daily basis, they are often not allowed to express their opinions, as we saw in Berlin with the multiple bans on demonstrations. At the University of Kassel, a memorial service for the Palestinian student Yousef Shaban, who was murdered in a bomb attack in Gaza, was even ended by the rector and the police were called.

In its statement on October 9, Freie Universität expressed solidarity with all of its Israeli cooperation partners. These include the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In recent years, the university has repeatedly come under massive criticism for discriminating against Palestinian students, as well as Jewish and international students who publicly criticize the Israeli state. In 1968, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem unlawfully occupied a significant portion of the land on which its Mount Scopus campus and dormitories are built. This land is part of East Jerusalem, which is illegally occupied by Israel under international law.

Since the beginning of the war, the FU Berlin has failed to show solidarity with the Palestinian victims in Gaza or with their relatives here. Instead, it has betrayed its integrity as a „free“ academic institution and unilaterally sided with the Israeli victims. Instead, however, a condemnation of all civilian victims and a clear position in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance is necessary, as anything else equates the violence of the oppressors and the oppressed. While we also condemn Hamas‘ massacres of the Israeli civilian population, these acts of terror bear no relation to the genocide that is being carried out with the concentrated state power of Israel and with the help of Western imperialism. It is also clear that anyone who wants to prevent atrocities such as those committed by Hamas must oppose the Israeli occupation.

The AStA has not yet published a statement on the genocide in Gaza. Based on the situation in the war zones described above and the genocidal policies of the Israeli state, we demand that both the Presidential Board of Freie Universität and the AStA finally break the silence and disregard for the suffering of the Palestinians. As has been described, there is a huge movement in solidarity with the people of Palestine, which has brought millions of people onto the streets worldwide. It is time for us to raise our voices against genocide and occupation at our university too.
